LUNGE WALKS force in motion
The most basic function we can improve through functional training is the ability to walk or run.
There are a million articles about movement variations that will help you on this journey, but none will beat the lunge walk.
Locomotion with resistance is basically the definition of a lunge walk, stepping from one leg to another whilst tackling all the balance, coordination, and strength demands along the way. Walking lunges are one of the best exercises for the lower body. They can be done anywhere with no equipment or at the gym loaded with dumbbells. To really feel it in your glutes, lengthen the stride and really focus on pushing through the front foot to stand and change legs.
